The Tipperary Dance Festival Masterclass Programme has become the Pro Sessions Programme. A unique opportunity for a close encounter in the studio with international artists at Tipperary Dance Festival. This is your chance to explore their distinctive approaches to creative and choreographic processes.
Alessandra Azeviche will perform a work-in-progress and be part of the discussion panel at In and Between on 09 October.
Alessandra Azeviche is a Dublin-based, Bahia-born dance artist and a leading Afro-Brazilian voice, connecting ancestral movements to contemporary performance. A board member of Dublin Dance Festival and Associate Artist at Project Arts Centre, she is also the Founder of the multicultural community Quilombo Terra (2023). Her acclaimed solo debut, ‘Terra’, was nominated for two Dublin Fringe Festival awards, and her work explores themes of counter-colonization and intersectionality.
In this Pro Session, Alessandra investigates the Ginga - the foundational movement of Capoeira - as a rich territory for research and artistic practice. Beyond technique, we explore the internal landscape of the movement: its ancestral roots, weight transfer, continuous momentum, and deep somatic connection. Rather than focusing strictly on steps, the workshop opens a space to engage with what lives inside the Ginga, using swing, balance, and intentional instability as tools for creative exploration, presence, and collective inquiry.
