Magdalena Hylak

Magdalena Hylak is a dance artist based in Clifden, in the West of Ireland. Born in Poland, she studied cultural studies, including theatre and dance, at University of Wroclaw.

Starting in 2011, she has worked with companies and choreographers including Michael Keegan- Dolan (Irl), Liz Roche (Irl) and Lea Anderson (UK) as part of Step Up Dance Project; John Scott / Irish Modern Dance Theatre, United Fall/ Emma Martin (Irl), Ciotóg | Ríonach Ní Néill (Irl) and Catherine Young Dance (Irl) amongst others.

Since 2017, she has been performing internationally with Compagnie Nacera Belaza (Fr).

Inspired by the surrounding landscape, her work can be described as raw, highly physical and emanating from within.

She works with the belief that dance is rooted in human existence and that there is no confusion in the public perception of a choreographic work. Therefore she is interested in community works where she tries to go back to the beginning, and works around an absolute idea of movement/dance.

She is the recipient of funding from the Arts Council (Agility Award 2021, Commission Award | GDP 2021, Dance Bursary Award 2022), Galway County Council (Artist Support Scheme 2022) and commissioned by Galway Dance Days, Galway Dance Project and the Clifden Arts Festival (2022 and 2023).
