Rocío  Dominguez

Rocío Dominguez is a freelance Contemporary Dance Artist currently based in Dublin. She is the recipient of a Dance Ireland HATCH Award for 2021.

In 2022, as associate artist at Tipperary Dance, Rocio is assistant in the TD Creates project Rising Voices directed by Alexandre Iseli. She is also recipient of residences in Tipperary and Tenerife in the context of TD International.

To date, Rocío has established an ongoing professional relationship as a performer with the award-winning contemporary circus company Loosysmokes, often performing in festivals such as Body & Soul, Kilkenny Arts Festival, Electric Picnic, and Dublin Fringe Festival. She has also worked as dancer and performer for Finnish choreographer Aliina Lindroos, Joclécio Azevedo in Portugal, and cork-based artist Luke Murphy and BrokenCrow Theatre Company. Most recent work includes performing for Junk Ensemble for their production The Veiled Ones, with upcoming shows in Dublin Fringe Festival and Baboro International Arts Festival in Galway, 2021.

Rocío took up various professional development opportunities including the Step-Up programme in 2018, devising and performing works by John Scott, Catherine Young, and Daniel Squire, touring in Ireland. She has been granted an Arts Council Bursary Award 2021, Arts Council Professional Development Award 2020, a Scholarship for Ensimismados Dance Festival Costa Rica 2019, an Arts Council Travel & Training Award 2019, and the Tipperary Dance Platform Fellowship 2018. She was also commissioned to perform the solo piece Remembering Self choreographed by Rebecca Lee, to be presented in What Next Dance Festival 2021 in Ireland, and selected to participate of Dance2Connect International LAB 2021, guided by Anthony Missen from Company Chameleon, and of Tipperary Dance Platform Hotspots LAB 2020, by Iseli-Chiodi Dance Company.

As a choreographer, she has co-created the short pieces War, performed at The Faculty of Architecture of Porto, and Mental Make Up, at the Teatro do Campo Alegre, Porto, 2018. She has been granted the Dance Ireland Residency 2020, the Corpo de Encontro Residency in Porto 2018 and Tipperary Dance Residency 2018 to start developing her own work. She is currently working in the creation of her solo piece Steps Towards Myself with the Support of the Arts Council of Ireland.
