For the creative process of An Immigrant’s Story, choreographer Wanjiru Kamuyu relied as much upon her personal experiences as those of collected testimonies.

In the form of collected voice recordings, these short stories serve as a reminder of our vital need for mobility and freedom. Alongside highlighting the socio-political gaze upon the ‘foreigner’, ‘other’, ‘newcomer’ which mirrors the systemic notion of privilege that categorically creates the desirable and undesirable migrant.

They reveal our multiple identities, which are constructed and influenced by our journeys: a mosaic of meaningful encounters enveloping the precious good of personal and collective enrichment.
