We are delighted to announce Rocío Dominguez as the recipient of our first international residency of 2024 at TROIS C-L, Luxembourg.
She will be developing her work MANY MEs in collaboration with Ross Ryder (visual artist). Rocio has been developing this project since 2021 thanks to an Arts Council Bursary Award and an Agility Award. In 2022 she further explored the choreographic process during her time as Associate Artist with Tipperary Dance, which included a residency in Ireland and another at Tenerife LAV, with a public showcase at Teatro Leal.
MANY MEs explores the constant search for the culmination of a rite of passage. It speaks about the death of a sister, the remaining wounds of a violent love relationship, and missing home. Rocío immerses herself in the ideas of mourning and uprooting, and investigates a space of no-time. In this space, the dancer is trapped in an attempt to conclude a rite of passage, in order to move on to a following step.
“I am truly delighted to have been selected for a residency at TROIS C-L in Luxembourg. I am particularly excited about connecting with the dance community there, and showing my work in progress at their studio.
I will use this opportunity to keep developing my work MANY MEs, working on the remaining body language of the piece and setting its choreographic elements, to finally bring together all the components and make the work ready for production.
Tipperary Dance has a strong focus on generating community and exchange among artists within Ireland and from abroad, which I really admire. It has been key to my growth as an artist, and I can see very clearly that I wouldn't be where I am without TD and Alex’s invaluable guidance and support.”
