Lucia Kickham

Lucia Kickham is a Wexford based dance artist performing and collaborating internationally since 2011. Trained in the Netherlands she has worked with companies and artists which include Liz Roche Company, Company Philip Connaughton, Junk Ensemble, Jessie Keenan + Tonnta, Maria Nilsson Waller, Mary Wycherly, TRASH(NL) and Oonagh Kearney.

Training intensively with David Zambrano in Flying Low and Passing Through techniques, Lucia has developed her interest in group dynamics within improvisation, composition and teaching environments. She has received coaching from Rosalind Crisp in choreographic improvisation and is invested in this line of research. Lucia is a guest tutor at IWAMD at University of Limerick and regularly leads workshops at dance centres across Ireland.

In recent years she has been a recipient of awards from Dance Ireland, Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Tipperary Dance and the Arts Council of Ireland, including the Next Generation and Commission Awards.

Lucia’s work INIT: The Warm Up Project was presented as part of the Dublin Dance Festival First Looks Programme and premiered at Dublin Fringe Festival 2019. She presented two new works in 2021, SOLO-ing and Middle End Beginning exploring the idea of powerful softness. This is a continuing topic of research within her practice.

Lucia was Dance Ireland HATCH Artist 2018 and Associate Artist with Liz Roche Company 2018/21. In 2022 she takes the role of rehearsal director on Step Up, a development programme for young graduate and professional dancers.
