Ben Meerwein

Ben Meerwein is a composer, sound and performance artist from Berlin. He studied composition, music theory, electroacoustic music and philosophy at the University of Leipzig, University of Music and Theatre Leipzig and at the the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. In his works he dealt with creation myths, natural phenomena, performance and (digital) spatiality.

He presented these works during the next generation Festival at the ZKM Karlsruhe, at the New Music Festival at the Raketenstation Hombroich and during the
ART Biesenthal Festival. He has also produced music for film and theatre, including at the Cammerspiele Leipzig, the Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin and for ARTE. Since 2022, he has been intensively involved in dance theatre: he took part in the workshop ‘La Veronal Working Tools’ as part of the Oriente Occidente Festival in Rovereto with Marcos Morau, and then sat in on his production of Morau’s production of ‘Nachtiräume’ at the Zurich Opera House Ballet and began own choreographic experiments. In February 2023, he was a participant in the ‘Open Studios’ residencies at Tanztendenz München, where he worked together with Ilaria Bagarolo and Giorgio Lombardo to develop his first own dance piece: ‘O’. This was performed for the first time at the Schwerer Reiter München during the Hier = Jetzt initiative
curated by Birgitia Trommler and Johanna Richter.
