Cine Club: Carmen

116 minutes

Paul Mescal and Melissa Barrera light up the screen in Benjamin Millepied’s modern-day reimagining of the beloved opera, featuring a new music score by Nicholas Britell.

Carmen (Barrera), a captivating, sensual young woman, leaves her family and community behind to escape a Mexican cartel. She flees to the US, dreaming of safety and freedom. She is captured by a fierce volunteer border patrol who tries to kill her. Shocked by this violence, returned soldier Aidan (Mescal) saves Carmen and helps her escape.
