Photographer Noel Shelley has worked prolifically in London with dance artists from the Royal Ballet and contemporary dance schools such as London Studio Centre, Trinity Laban and Rambert. Noel’s dance photography combines an energy of movement, inspired by Gaga movement language, with a simple exploration of transition.
For two years Noel has been working as a photographer for Dublin-based dance companies: Ballet Ireland, Irish Modern Dance Theatre and Go Dance for Change. He has also photographed alongside the Dublin Fire Community, documenting events and festivals alongside the best performers of Irish circus.
Collaborating with the Dance industry in Ireland and London has enabled Noel to take visual influence from choreographers such as Pina Bausch, Martha Graham, Hofesh Shechter and Ohad Naharin, while working in collaboration with professional movement artists from Tel Aviv, New York and Paris.
Noel’s most recent “Making Space” series of photographs for Tipperary Dance, combines the beauty of age with a celebratory movement language. The images come together to document choreographer Mia’s DiChiaro’s unique and vibrant process, celebrating both the energy and character of each individual dancer.
