Jonas Friedlich (born in Munich, based in berlin) is a versatile musician, artist, DJ, producer and teacher. He studied art education with a focus on sound installation and performance at the academy of fine arts in Munich. In 2016 he started releasing music as a solo artist, blurring the edges of club music genres. With 20 years of DJing experience, he has become an influential figure in Munich’s nightlife.
Besides various DJ residencies (Rote Sonne, MMA, Harry Klein) he was organizing raves, exhibitions and festivals in clubs and off-locations since 2010. With his band project Carl Gari (ad93/The Trilogy Tapes) he performed at some of the most relevant european festivals for avantgarde electronic music in recent years (Berlin Atonal, Rewire, Draaimoolen, Positive Education,…).
Since 2018 he has been composing and sound designing for contemporary dance and theatre. Although sound is his preferred media of art, at times he also creates video installations and concepts, post-producing videography for concerts and theatre productions or occasionally graphic design. To date he is responsible for the music in a total of 17 pieces with performances all over Europe and beyond. In his genre-fluid DJ sets he manages to mix all sorts of bass music, break-beat, techno, house and a good dose of hip hop in a seemingly effortless way. Since moving to Berlin in 2024, he has been focusing on new solo projects and new musical collaborations. As part of the venue Backsteinboot in Spandau Berlin, he co-hosts the yearly event System Dialog, a celebration of Soundsystem Culture and experimental bass music.
