Carlota Mantecón is a dancer and choreographer from Canary Islands, her work navigates through dance, choreography, performativity and curatorial practices. She studied in Barcelona first and continued her formation with a Postgraduate in Performance in London at LCDS.
“In my artistic practice I relate to the material, the sonic or the tactile, developing somatic and perceptive sensitivities as a starting point from which to explore other ways of coexisting. I fabulate with choreographies between the singular and the plural, in an attempt to displace the normative individualistic gaze.”
ONE SAME MOVEMENT is a scenic device in which the body, sound, light and space are manifested, producing non-hierarchical relationships through a constant exercise of listening to and from the trace in collaboration with the artist Luz Prado. Presented in EAAC Castellon Museum / DANCE, NO GOAL a piece of fiction about dance stories of postmodern dancers in collaboration with Luz Prado and Tamara Ascanio. Premier in PTL Lubliana Theater 2020 // THIS IS NOT A SOUND CHECK starts from the desire to move the visual attention of the dancer towards a more sensorial and perceptive space through sound. Premier in FAM 2019 // PRINCIPIANTES is a scenic device with women over 60 years of age around about a collective body. In the last 5 years, she has collaborated with more than 90 women from the national and regional territory, stretching the possible intersections between the theater space, the museum, the town square, the park or an electronic music festival, places where we have shared the practice with the public. // LA CRESTA (dance and performance) 2020-2021, she curated this program of new languages of stage creation in TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes museum.
As a dancer and performer she has collaborate with diverse artist like Luz Prado, nibia pastrana santiago, Tamara Ascanio, Dario Barreto Damas, Sara Reyes or Carmelo Fernandez in several context and she also worked with choreographers such as Jesús Rubio Gamo, Masu Fajardo, Carmelo Salazar, or Alexandar Georgiev with whom she is currently on tour with the piece Screensaver.
