Songs We Carry is a community dance workshop exploring identity, memory, and connection through music and movement. Participants are invited to bring a song that holds personal meaning, one that reminds them of an important life moment, a loved one, their younger years, or simply a feel-good song they enjoy dancing to at home.
Together, the group transforms these memories into simple movements and gestures inspired by the song's lyrics, rhythm, melody, mood, or emotional atmosphere.
Each session begins with a playful warm-up using familiar songs to encourage creative movement and build confidence. Participants gather key words, emotions, gestures, and actions, which gradually develop into shared movement material. Working individually, in pairs, and as a group, these ideas evolve into a collaborative choreography that highlights each person's story while fostering connection and a sense of community. The workshops offer an inclusive and welcoming space where songs become a catalyst for dance and movement, storytelling, and shared experiences.
