Choreographer and Director of La Veronal.
A renowned and celebrated creator on the contemporary European scene, Marcos Morau founded La Veronal in 2005. Trained between Barcelona and New York, in Photography, Movement and Theater, he builds imaginary worlds and landscapes in which movement and image converge and engulf each other.
The purpose of his artistic team lies in a constant search for new expressive media and cultural references, drawing on a language that is narrative and, at the same time, groundbreaking. This imagination has led the company to stand out on the map of international contemporary creation, laying claim to its own voice. As a director, choreographer and designer of sets, costumes and lighting, his work has been recognized by festivals and theaters and in various international contexts such as the Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, the Biennale di Venezia, the Festival d’Avignon, Tanz Im August in Berlin, RomaEuropa Festival, SIDance Festival in Seoul, and at Sadler’s Wells in London.
In addition to his work with La Veronal, Marcos Morau contributes as a guest artist at several companies and theaters around the world, where he develops new creations, always bridging the performing arts and dance: the Göteborg Opera Ballet, Rhine Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet, Scapino Ballet, Carte Blanche, Ballet de Lorraine, National Dance Company, and the Lucerne Opera Ballet, among many others. In 2013 he won the Time Out Award for Best Creator of the Year, the Sebastià Gasch Award (awarded by the FAD Arts and Design Foundation) and the 2013 National Dance Award in the area of Choreography; numerous “Butaca” awards for his creations, critical acclaim and different awards at different national and international choreographic competitions, such as the International Choreographic Competition of Hannover, the Choreographic Competition of Copenhagen, Madrid, and Maspalomas all speak to his brilliance as a choreographer and stage director.
