Daniel Navarro (1990, Canary Island) is a performing artist whose journey in dance originates in urban styles and evolves into a personal language that resists categorization. He began training at the age of 12 in urban dance, a foundation that deeply shaped his relationship with rhythm, physicality, and intuition. At 23, his interests shifted toward movement research, leading him into contemporary dance as a space for exploration—though never fully identifying within its formal boundaries. His practice is rooted in hybridity and experience, developing an artistic identity that deliberately avoids fixed labels.
Since 2014, he has been creating his own work, developing a total of 17 productions to date. His creations explore an honest physical language, focused on the transmission of sensations rather than technical display. His pieces have been presented nationally and internationally and have received several recognitions, including First Prize in 2019 and Second Prize in 2017 at the Gdańsk International Solo Dance Festival (Poland), as well as distinctions at festivals such as the International Contemporary Dance Festival of the Canary Islands Masdanza. Works such as El Vuelo (2020) were nominated for Best Dance Performance at the Canary Islands Réplica Awards, while Ina received the awards for Best Dance Performance and Best Lighting Design.
Currently, his artistic perspective is grounded in the responsibility of creating within the present moment, understanding dance as a space for transformation. His focus lies on beauty as a form of resistance—a tool capable of opening cracks in perception and fostering deep connections with the audience. Moving away from spectacle, his work insists on the intimate, on what happens within the encounter, defending art as a necessary act in response to the complexities of the contemporary world.
