Michael McEvoy (he/him) 25, is a dance artist from County Down, Northern Ireland. He began his dance education and professional debut in Belfast in 2014 before graduating from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance with a First Class BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance. Michael is a freelance artist often returning to companies such as Belfast’s very own Maiden Voyage Dance as well as the Roisín Whelan Dance Company in the Republic of Ireland.
Currently, Michael is focusing on his creative practice, Michael is a ‘Reveal’ artist through Prime Cut Productions for 2023 & 2024 and is an artist at Vault Artist Studios. ‘The Gate House’ has been supported by the ACNI’s Support for the Individual Artist Program, the work wouldn’t have been initially researched and created without support from Vault Artist Studios & Shawbrook Residential Space.
To date Michael has created 4 original live works; Beyond, Sculpt, Schoenberg Reimagined and Our Boys. The most recent work Our Boys was commissioned by Dance associate for gallery and theatre spaces across Northern Ireland, including Belfast at Newry.
ACNI have also awarded Michael with a Digital Evolution Grant to research and create a new digital dance piece for VR. ‘A Kiss for a Kiss’ will be a digital production for VR through a 180 POV. The creation period will be this April with full production complete by end of September 2023.
Michael’s trajectory is to keep climbing the funding ladder and continue to produce high quality original contemporary dance productions. Michael’s aim is to gain Artist and residence status in Ireland and continue to reproduce work for festivals across the country.
