SPLASH is Tipperary Dance's new way to embrace its international alliances. SPLASH Lab is a horizontal cooperative space of practice to foster inspiring interaction among dance creators and strengthen connections among dance artists in the Tipperary Dance community. This edition of the Lab will be facilitated by French/American artist Murielle Elizéon, co-creator and co-director of Culture Mill in Saxapahaw (NC, USA).
The Tipperary Dance SPLASH Lab exists to bring together and foster a growing community of practice among Irish and international dance artists.
During the 2024 Tipperary Dance Festival, a core group of dance professionals who have a strong connection to Tipperary Dance (whether by being trusted dancers in Alexandre Iseli performances, being artists in residence or long-term international collaborators) will gather to inhabit spaces of practice, emergence and cross pollination around the theme of relationship.
The radical claim of this initiative, which will grow in concentric circles in futures editions of SPLASH Lab by adding new members from both the Irish and European dance community, is to model something deeply needed in the dance community but also in our society at large: spaces of presence, cooperation, generosity, attention, and embodied imagination, spaces to feel individually, relationally and communally. Spaces where people can take risks courageously and playfully, while sharing their skills, challenges and desires, enrich their own work and create new possibilities for the dance ecosystem.
SPLASH Lab will gather artists at Tipperary Dance Festival 2024 for a week of joint practice around research topics and materials proposed by the participants.
All participants will be hosted by Tipperary Dance. They will take part in the festival’s masterclasses by Jana Castillo, in collaboration with Luail - Ireland’s National Dance Company.
