Αt the moment, we are forced to confront the devaluation of obvious educational and professional rights and it is urgent to inform you about the country’s current situation regarding the cultural and political state of affairs. The implementation of the Presidential Decree 85/2022, dated on the 17th of December 2022, downgrades the status of graduates from drama, dance, performing arts, conservatories and cinema schools by equating them with ordinary high school graduates.

For more than two months Greek artists are protesting. We are crying out loud but our voices are not reaching through… Censorship seems stronger when imposed through silence… have you ever seen a dream in which you are breaking your vocal cords screaming but still no voice is coming out of your mouth? It is a very scary dream indeed!

The media and the government are trying to silence us or they use lies and communication tricks. We are trying to be heard with any cost and means.

Do you hear us? We are shouting! Do you see us? We are standing!

Two months of general strikes and demonstrations, abstinence of students and faculty members from art classes all over the country, actions and performances on public spaces, texts and broadcasts,… and the list goes on…

  • Resignations of professors of the Drama Schools of the: National Theatre of Greece, National Theatre of Northern Greece, Municipality Theater of Patras
  • Occupations at the:
    • Drama School of the National Theatre of Greece
    • Drama School of the State Theatre of Northern Greece
    • Drama School of the Patras Municipality Theatre
    • all main stages National Theatre (Ziller Building & REX)
    • National Theatre of Northern Greece
    • Patra’ s Αpollon Theatre
    • National School of Dance (KSOT)
    • University of Peloponnese-School of Arts (The Department of Theatre Studies and the Department of Performing and Digital Arts)
    • Athens School of Fine Arts
    • School of Drama of the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki
    • Theater Olympia, Athens (old National Opera house) by working dancers and dance students
    • School of Fine Arts of Ionio University
    • Art high schools

We have the support of many professional sectors like doctors, teachers, archaeologists and more… Moreover unions, collectives and occupations are protesting for their right to life and safety after the terrible train accident that took place in center Greece, counting 57 dead young people already. The abandonment of rail-lines for the last twenty years is unprecedented and criminal!

To those who hear us. A message from Greece. A message for you, our friends, our neighbors, our colleagues! We ask for your solidarity. Spread the word, break the silence!
