Catríona Fallon has worked in the Irish arts sector for three decades in venue management, visual arts, festivals, and more latterly in sustainability and climate action. She is the co-founder of the Green Arts Initiative in Ireland and led the Greening Siamsa initiative in Siamsa Tíre from 2016 to 2019. During that time, Siamsa Tíre was certified by Julie’s Bicycle and won an award for Best Newcomer at the Creative Green Awards in 2018.
Since 2016, she has been working with Theatre Forum to influence change on climate action in the theatre sector, culminating in the creation of the Green Arts Initiative in Ireland, mentored by Creative Carbon Scotland. The GAII has run a number of projects: The Greening Venues Pilot Project 2020-2021, the Greening Arts Centres Project 2021-22, funded by the Arts Council, and in the autumn of 2022, Catríona began work with Theatre Forum on a Greener Touring Project working with six touring companies across dance, theatre, and opera. She has worked with a range of theatre production companies and venues to address their carbon footprint and overall environmental sustainability.
Catríona was also Project Manager with the Dingle Hub for Corca Dhuibhne Inbhuanaithe – A Creative Imagining, funded under the Creative Climate Action Fund (2021-22). This project, working with artist Lisa Fingleton, and ten farming families from the Dingle Peninsula, creatively engaged with participating farmers, supporting them to identify climate action solutions and options for diversification.
Catríona is committed to supporting community engagement on climate change, particularly in terms of renewable energy technologies in West Kerry where she lives. She is the Treasurer of Kerry Sustainable Energy Co-op and Secretary of the West Kerry Dairy Farmers’ Sustainable Energy Community.
